WYSIsn’talwaysWYG – Browser Incompatibilites

Browser Shots LogoSince I have building sites, I more often than not run my creations through browsershots.org to see how they look on multiple browsers. Browser Shots presents to you a screen capture of how your site will look on dozens and dozens of different browser and operating system combinations.

Browser Shots main interfaceIt’s a very handy tool. I am using it myself right now to troubleshoot this very site! As you will see from the capture below, this site looks right in most browsers, most except all variants of Internet Explorer of course!

Browsershots is nice, but if you do not want to wait 30 minutes for your shots – check BrowserSeal

I was keen to try BrowserSeal, but its Windows only, and $89…….and your Trial only has Internet Explorer and Firefox? …….Doesn’t every install of Windows come with Internet Explorer anyway? And Firefox is a free download? I’m not seeing the value here, but I am going to download it right now, and try it to see what it has to offer above just Looking at your site in IE and FF.

I have just downloaded the trial version and installed it in XP (running in VMWare on my Mac Pro) and Unfortunately I am sticking to my original comments. If it allowed Windows users to see how their web sites look on Safari or Firefox on a Mac, then I could justify paying you $89, but given Chrome, Safari, Opera etc etc are all free downloads for Windows anyway, I think I will continue to wait 30 minutes for browsershots, see my site on practically every combination of Browsers and O/S’s, and keep my $89 – Sorry dude…..
